What is Hands-Off Training?

Hands-Off Training gives your dog professional support and gives you a structure you can actually follow through on. Each week includes four visits in your home, leveling outvtrainer-led progress with family involvement.

  • Three visits per week: A trainer works directly with your dog to build skills, routines, and confidence.

  • In between: You’ll have simple management steps, handouts, and short video exercises to keep your dog practicing without adding hours of work to your schedule.

  • One visit per week: We work with you and your family. This is where you learn how to reinforce what your dog has already practiced, so progress carries over into real life.

Why this rhythm works:

  • Dogs learn best when training is consistent and structured, not unpredictable or sporadic.

  • Predictable routines lower stress, which makes learning easier and more reliable.

  • Regular success helps dogs stay engaged and optimistic, so they’re more willing to try and keep practicing.

This model ensures your dog learns in a steady, low-stress way . You get a plan that’s practical to maintain at home.

Choose Your Path

Every dog and family is different, which is why our Hands-Off Training comes in two formats. Both follow the same weekly rhythm of three trainer-led dog sessions and one family session. The difference is in the length and focus of each visit.

  • Isolated Cues -

    • 30-minute sessions designed for quick, targeted progress on specific skills. Perfect for dogs who need focused work on one or two challenges.Virtual Breakdown Session:

  • Tiered Learning -

    • 1-hour sessions that allow for layered progress, covering foundations through more advanced skills. Best for families who want steady growth and long-term results.

Isolated Cues:

Sometimes you don’t need a long program. You need targeted help on one or two priorities and a plan you can actually keep up with. That’s where the Isolated Cues program comes in.

Format

  • Four 30-minute visits each week - three trainer-led sessions with your dog, plus one family coaching session.

  • A focused three-week run that builds a skill pattern, teaches you how to reinforce it, and gives your dog the consistency to succeed.

Best fit for:

  • Leash manners when your dog just pulls, not when they react fearfully or aggressively.

  • Polite greetings at the door or with visitors.

  • Coming when called in lower-distraction settings.

  • Stationing on a mat or waiting calmly at doorways.

Families Role:

  • Practice short daily reps that match what we set during trainer visits.

  • Follow simple management steps to prevent setbacks while the new routine takes hold.

  • Use video refreshers and checklists so you always know what to do between sessions.

What success looks like

  • A clean, repeatable skill you can count on in everyday situations.

  • A routine you can maintain without guesswork.

  • A plan to generalize the skill to new settings when your dog is ready.

When Isolated Cues may not be enough

Dogs with multiple, interacting issues like reactivity layered with leash pulling often need more time and more than one skill trained at once. In those cases, the Tiered Learning program is a better fit. If your dog shows significant fear, aggression, or has a bite history, a separate behavior plan may be recommended before we begin skill work

Tiered Learning

Some dogs and families need more than a quick fix. When skills build on each other, or when behavior challenges are connected, progress takes more time. The Tiered Learning program gives that time with the same weekly rhythm, but longer sessions and a broader focus.

Program Format

  • Four 1-hour visits each week - three trainer-led sessions with your dog, plus one family coaching session.

  • Available in 2, 4, or 6-week tiers, depending on your goals.

  • Each week builds on the last, moving from foundation to application in real-life situations.

Best fit for:

  • Dogs who need multiple skills built together, such as leash manners and impulse control.

  • Complex issues where one behavior fuels another (like reactivity linked to frustration on leash).

  • Families who want their dog to progress beyond basics and develop consistent routines across different contexts.

  • Owners who prefer a steady, step-by-step plan instead of a quick burst of training.

Families Involvement

  • Follow the same structure as Isolated: short daily practice, simple management steps, and video/handout support.

  • Reinforce not just one behavior, but the growing set of skills we build week to week.

  • Use family coaching sessions to learn how these skills connect, so you can apply them in real life.

What to expect

  • A stronger foundation that supports reliable behavior in more than one context.

  • A family who understands how the pieces fit together, not just how to repeat a single skill.

  • A realistic plan for continuing progress after the program ends.

When Tiered Learning may not be enough

If your dog shows severe fear, aggression, or a bite history, we may recommend starting with a behavior assessment and separate behavior plan before enrolling in Tiered. This ensures safety and sets your dog up for success.

Common Challenges We Address

Every dog has different needs, but many families come to Hands-Off Training for the same types of struggles. Our programs are designed to tackle these in ways that fit your life and your dog’s emotional well-being.

Everyday struggles

  • Dragging you down the street on walks, leaving you frustrated and avoiding outings.

  • Jumping up on visitors or family members, no matter how many times you say “off.”

  • Snatching food from counters or tables the second your back is turned.

  • Barking at every sound or movement outside, making it hard to relax at home.

Puppy challenges

  • Needle-sharp teeth on your hands, clothes, or kids, turning playtime into chaos.

  • Chewing chair legs, shoes, or cords the moment they’re out of sight.

  • Accidents around the house even though you’ve just taken them outside.

  • Spiraling into zoomies when you want calm, with no “off switch” in sight.

Bigger concerns

  • Growling or stiffening when someone approaches their food bowl, toys, or favorite spot.

  • Exploding on leash when another dog or stranger comes into view.

  • Shutting down, trembling, or hiding when faced with new situations or people.

  • Pacing, whining, or destroying things when left alone, even for a short time.

These are the real-life challenges that make living with your dog stressful. Some need a quick tune-up on one or two skills, while others require a more layered plan to change how your dog feels as well as how they act. That’s why we offer both Isolated Cues and Tiered Learning.
