How it works!

This option is for those clients wanting to be there every step of the way.

Owner Focused Consultation:

Our consultation is not a meet and greet

Duration: 90-Minutes

Owner Focused Consultation: 90 minutes (Required) before follow-up sessions can be booked

Our single consultation provides an in-depth look at the relationship between you and your canine companion, pinpointing areas of miscommunication that can hinder progress. Just as an exterminator targets hidden “termites,” we strive to uncover the underlying issues—emotional, environmental, or otherwise—that may be affecting your dog’s behavior.

In this individualized session, we go beyond merely fixing surface-level problems. We consider the whole picture: from genetics and past learning experiences to your dog’s day-to-day environment and emotional well-being. Drawing on contemporary insights in stress physiology, emotional neuroscience, and canine development, we create strategies that prioritize your dog’s comfort rather than relying on tools or methods that induce intimidation or discomfort. Our goal is to ensure that changes in behavior come from genuine learning and trust, not fear or appeasement.

Many dogs face challenges adapting to our human-centered world, and this consultation serves as the essential first step for those dealing with reactivity, aggression, or other behavioral hurdles. During this session, we’ll assess what your pets enrichment looks like, what management protocols you have put into place and map out a behavior plan to determine the potential number of follow-up sessions necessary to get you both back on the trodden path. Often, what appears to be a simple fix is actually part of a broader puzzle—one that requires deeper collaboration and guidance to fully resolve. Think of this initial meeting as gathering the puzzle pieces and learning to view your dog through a more complete lens.

Whether your main focus is basic leash manners or foundational cues, to needing targeted professional support—or simply a clear plan to get back on track—this consultation can offer a vital framework for what is needed to move forward.

Ultimately, our commitment is not only to help your dog, but also to equip you with the knowledge and confidence to sustain their progress. By understanding why certain behaviors occur and how best to meet your dog’s unique needs,

this session is the first step to unraveling what your next steps are going to be to building a better relationship with your 4 legged companion.

Over the course of these one-on-one sessions, you’ll learn the practical skills needed to address your dog’s behavior in a way that respects both their emotional well-being and your everyday life. This is not a quick fix; instead, it’s a guided journey that explores management, enrichment, and training as equally crucial components of building a lasting mutual relationship.

Informed by Modern Canine Science

Our philosophy draws on the foundational work of several leading researchers who’ve shaped our understanding of canine behavior and emotion:

  • Emotional Systems & Stress: Cross-species studies of emotional regulation show that a dog’s core affective states—such as fear, playfulness, or seeking—have a profound impact on their ability to learn and adapt. By recognizing how emotional arousal and security influence behavior, we can employ training strategies that cultivate genuine confidence and curiosity, rather than avoidance or anxiety.

  • Canine Development & Evolution: Foundational research in comparative genetics, domestication studies, and canine cognition reveals how a dog’s evolutionary legacy and inherited traits can lead to behaviors that aren’t always compatible with modern human lifestyles. By examining how selective breeding and social bonding evolved over time, these studies underscore the importance of understanding a dog’s innate drives for successful, stress-free integration into today’s world.

  • Animal Emotions & Ethics: Insights into the emotional lives of dogs highlight the need for empathy and respect in our interactions. Recognizing dogs as sentient, feeling beings encourages us to adopt compassionate, ethically sound approaches to guiding and caring for them.

  • Stress Physiology & Behavior: Research on stress-response mechanisms and hormone regulation demonstrates how chronic stress can shape behavioral patterns over time, inhibiting a dog’s capacity to process new information. By proactively reducing triggers and creating stability in your dog’s daily routine, we foster an environment where they can thrive, learn effectively, and express their natural behaviors without the burden of ongoing tension.

  • Ethology: The study of animal behavior in natural settings underscores how innate instincts and evolutionary pressures continue to guide the behavior of domestic dogs. By applying ethological insights—such as understanding natural social structures, predatory drives, and communication signals—we create training strategies and environments that align with a dog’s inherent nature, paving the way for a clearer communication within human households.

Embracing the L.E.G.S. Model

While these scientific perspectives enrich our work, we also incorporate a user-friendly ethological framework, often referred to as “L.E.G.S.” (Learning, Environment, Genetics, and Self). This model helps you see your dog’s behavior in context—where each factor plays a vital role in shaping how your dog responds to the world around them. We adapt these insights into practical, hands-on training plans you can apply in daily life.

Session Format

1. Initial Consultation: We begin with a thorough evaluation of your dog’s background, daily routine, and any behaviors of concern. This helps us craft a starting plan that covers management (immediate setup and household strategies), enrichment (activities that fulfill natural drives and reduce frustration), and training (reinforcing new, desired behaviors through positive techniques).

2. Follow-Up Sessions: During each subsequent one-hour session, we’ll refine the plan to match your dog’s progress and comfort level. You’ll learn step-by-step methods to implement enrichment activities, support healthy emotional outlets, and build clear, consistent communication with your dog.

3. Ongoing Support & Adjustments: Dogs are dynamic, living beings with evolving needs. We track changes in behavior and environment, adapting our strategies so that you and your dog continue to grow together. Real success comes from a partnership where both human and canine understand one another’s needs.

Practical, Owner-Centric Training

The heart of these sessions is teaching you what you need to do with your dog . From introducing new activities that channel your dog’s natural instincts to showing you how to read subtle body language cues, each session equips you with techniques to enhance communication and reduce stress for everyone involved. We avoid harsh methods or quick fixes—instead, we focus on building trust and promoting a joyful, curious state of mind in your dog.

Why Management, Enrichment, and Training Matter

  • Management helps set up your environment for success, reducing stress triggers and making it easier for your dog to develop new habits.

  • Enrichment ensures your dog’s mental, emotional, and physical needs are met, addressing the root causes of many unwanted behaviors.

  • Training solidifies skills and fosters cooperation, using gentle, science-based methods that encourage your dog to learn with confidence rather than fear.

A Personalized Path Forward

Each dog is an individual, shaped by unique genetic influences, life experiences, and current circumstances. By grounding our approach in science and empathy, we create a personalized roadmap for you and your dog—one that respects their inherent drives while helping them adapt to the demands of modern life.
