How it works!

This option is for those clients wanting to be there every step of the way.

Owner Focused Consultation:

Our consultation is not a meet and greet

Duration: 90-Minutes

Owner Focused Consultation: 90 minutes (Required) before follow-up sessions can be booked

Our consultation is the first and most important step in working together. Before any follow-up training, we'll utilize your intake form and take the time to understand your dog and your household in depth.

This session begins with your intake report. We use it to guide our discussion of your dog’s behavior, daily routines, and current management strategies. Together, we review what is already in place and identify areas where miscommunication or unmet needs may be creating challenges.

From there, we walk through your dog’s enrichment plan. Enrichment is not just “extra activities” but the foundation of emotional health and behavior stability. We look at what you are currently doing and design new, practical options that fit your dog’s unique needs and your lifestyle.

We also draw on stress physiology, emotional neuroscience, and canine development to ensure recommendations are grounded in science. The outcome of the consultation is a behavior plan that outlines management adjustments, enrichment goals, and recommendations for the number and type of follow-up sessions. The follow-up sessions are where the skill-building begins.

This consultation is required before any follow-up work, because it gives us a complete picture of both you and your dog’s needs and sets a clear framework for moving forward. It is not a quick fix but the essential first step in creating a path toward meaningful progress.

Packaged Follow-up Sessions:

Multi-Session Packages: A Holistic, Science-Informed Approach

What to Expect

Our multi-session packages utilize the plan we developed within your initial consultation. they are carefully designed through collaboration with you to help you and your dog develop a deeper, more cooperative bond. Over the course of these one-on-one sessions, you’ll learn the practical skills needed to address your dog’s behavior in a way that respects both their emotional well-being and your everyday life. This is not a quick fix; instead, it’s a guided journey that explores management, enrichment, and training as equally crucial components of building a lasting mutual relationship.

Informed by Modern Canine Science

Our philosophy draws on the foundational work of several leading researchers who’ve shaped our understanding of canine behavior and emotion:

  • Emotional Systems & Stress: Research across different animal species shows that a dog’s core emotional states, such as fear, playfulness, or curiosity, have a powerful effect on how they learn and adapt. By understanding how emotional arousal and a sense of safety influence behavior, we can use training approaches that build genuine confidence and curiosity rather than avoidance or anxiety.

  • Canine Development & Evolution: Foundational research in comparative genetics, domestication studies, and canine cognition reveals how a dog’s evolutionary legacy and inherited traits can lead to behaviors that aren’t always compatible with modern human lifestyles. By examining how selective breeding and social bonding evolved over time, these studies underscore the importance of understanding a dog’s innate drives for successful, stress-free integration into today’s world.

  • Animal Emotions & Ethics: Insights into the emotional lives of dogs highlight the need for empathy and respect in our interactions. Recognizing dogs as sentient, feeling beings encourages us to adopt compassionate, ethically sound approaches to guiding and caring for them.

  • Stress Physiology & Behavior: Research on stress-response mechanisms and hormone regulation demonstrates how chronic stress can shape behavioral patterns over time, inhibiting a dog’s capacity to process new information. By proactively reducing triggers and creating stability in your dog’s daily routine, we foster an environment where they can thrive, learn effectively, and express their natural behaviors without the burden of ongoing tension.

  • Ethology: The study of animal behavior in natural settings shows how instincts and evolution still shape the way domestic dogs act today. By using insights about natural social structures, predatory drives, and communication signals, we design training strategies and home environments that respect a dog’s nature and make communication clearer within your household.

Embracing the L.E.G.S. Model

While these scientific perspectives enrich our work, we also incorporate a user-friendly ethological framework called “L.E.G.S.” (Learning, Environment, Genetics, and Self). This model helps you view your dog’s behavior in context, where each factor plays a vital role in shaping how your dog responds to the world. We then translate those insights into practical training plans you can use in everyday life.

Session Format

1. Initial Consultation: We begin with a thorough evaluation of your dog’s background, daily routine, and any behaviors of concern. This helps us craft a starting plan that covers management (immediate setup and household strategies), enrichment (activities that fulfill natural drives and reduce frustration), and training (reinforcing new, desired behaviors through positive techniques).

2. Follow-Up Sessions: During each subsequent one-hour session, we’ll refine the plan to match your dog’s progress and comfort level. You’ll learn step-by-step methods to implement enrichment activities, support healthy emotional outlets, and build clear, consistent communication with your dog.

3. Ongoing Support & Adjustments: Dogs are dynamic, living beings with evolving needs. We track changes in behavior and environment, adapting our strategies so that you and your dog continue to grow together. Real success comes from a partnership where both human and canine understand one another’s needs.

Practical, Owner-Centric Training

The heart of these sessions is strengthening the relationship between you and your dog. While you learn what to do and how to respond, your dog is given opportunities to engage in activities that channel natural instincts and build confidence. Together, you practice reading subtle body language cues, enhancing two-way communication, and reducing stress for both sides of the leash. These sessions avoid harsh methods or quick fixes and instead focus on creating trust and nurturing a joyful, curious state of mind in your dog.

Why Management, Enrichment, and Training Matter

  • Management helps set up your environment for success, reducing stress triggers and making it easier for your dog to develop new habits.

  • Enrichment ensures your dog’s mental, emotional, and physical needs are met, addressing the root causes of many unwanted behaviors.

  • Training (Skill-building) solidifies skills and fosters cooperation, using gentle, science-based methods that encourage your dog to learn with confidence rather than fear.

A Personalized Path Forward

Each dog is an individual, shaped by unique genetic influences, life experiences, and current circumstances. By grounding our approach in science and empathy, we create a personalized roadmap for you and your dog. The type that respects their inherent drives while helping them adapt to the demands of modern life.
